Girl Scouts honor local adult volunteers

Posted

Four Lynbrook women were among those honored by the Girls Scouts of Nassau County recently when the organization honored adult volunteers for their service and lifelong commitment and achievements.
The ceremony was held at the Hillwood Commons Auditorium at the LIU- Post campus in Brookville.

Madeline Pearson was honored by the Girl Scouts for her adult volunteer service and lifelong achievements. Pearson received the GSUSA Thanks Badge, which is the highest honor an adult member can achieve. The badge honors her for her ongoing commitment, leadership and service that had an exceptional impact on meeting the goals of the council, as well as the entire Girl Scout movement. Pearson has held many positions on the service team, and consistently works hard to move the council forward in achieving its goals. She has served as a membership organizer for many schools, bringing together hundreds of girls and Troop Leaders. Pearson has worked to empower girls, and has made them an integral part of the GSNC governance system. Overall, she has had more than an exceptional impact on the entire Girl Scout movement.

Pat Hickey, of Lynbrook, was recently honored by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County for her adult volunteer service and lifelong achievements with the Girl Scouts. Hickey received the GSUSA Honor Pin, which recognized her service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience in such a way that it has had a substantial impact on two or more communities where Girl Scouting is offered in Nassau County.

Rhona Barbieri-Kate has served on the ELLM Association for 25 years, and has been the Association Cookie Chair for 19 years. A strong advocate for the cookie program, she uses her home as a “cookie cupboard,” ensuring that troops will not run out of cookies for booth sales.  Following Hurricane Sandy, Rhona distributed gift baskets to troops in the East Rockaway area, a true inspirational act of kindness.

Anna Lenz has been a member of the ELLM Association for 13 years, mentoring girls as they have worked on their Silver Award, Program Aid and Leader in Action Awards. She led her Cadette and Junior Troops in diligently preparing hot meals for residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.
