Glassberg in the Sixth L.D.

Posted
We think Glassberg has the enthusiasm, conviction and abilities to ably represent the district. The Democrat supports most of what County Executive Thomas Suozzi is trying to do to put Nassau back on a financially manageable track, and we think he's smart and independent enough to buck Suozzi and his Democratic colleagues if he believes they're wrong.
Glassberg is very well educated, with Princeton, NYU and a Harvard MBA on his resume, and after some years in banking and finance, he has spent most of his working life as a college professor. He's experienced in working in concert with others to achieve results. He's retired now, but had 22 years of service on the Board of Education for Valley Stream School District 24 and the Central High School District board. He has also demonstrated leadership by serving as president of those boards.
Glassberg's opponent for the legislator's position, Republican incumbent Francis X. Becker, an insurance executive, has been a fine public servant and a popular leader in Lynbrook for years. He and his family have a reputation for community service, and Becker is proud of his involvement in local activities. He believes his job is mostly about paying attention to constituents' needs and delivering constituent services.
Becker has been in the Legislature since the body was created in 1996 and has been re-elected by wide margins to each two-year term since. We think he deserves applause and appreciation for all the work he's done. But we think Glassberg is at least as qualified, seems more eager, and has more energy, time and interest to give to the job than Becker. We believe Glassberg can take a fresh look at ways to help the county continue its recovery and better meet the new challenges we know will come.
The Herald thinks Richard Glassberg is right for the sixth district in this election.
