In the vote to fill two trustee seats on the village board, newcomers Kevin Glynn and Ed Oppenheimer won the most votes on Tuesday, garnering 2,190 and 1,962, respectively, in unofficial results reported by the village late Tuesday night. One-term incumbent Jeanne Mulry picked up 1,887 votes in the best-two-of-three at-large election.
"I am honored and humbled by the trust that the voters have placed in me," Glynn said. "It is not a victory for Kevin Glynn, it is a victory for common-sense solutions and the residents of Rockville Centre. I commend Mr. Oppenheimer and Trustee Mulry for running good campaigns."
"First and foremost, I would like to thank the voters for their expression of confidence in me," said Oppenheimer. "I would like to congratulate Kevin Glynn and Kevin McDonough on their success. I would like to express my thanks to Jeanne Mulry for her service to the community and to Mindy Roman for her efforts."
Glynn a 32-year-old attorney who was making his first bid for public office; the 56-year-old Oppenheimer, an accountant, former Nassau County legislator and longtime community volunteer; and Mulry, a 47-year-old lawyer and civic advocate, competed for the trustee positions.
Oppenheimer ran on the Concerned Citizens Party line, the party of Mayor Mary Bossart, Deputy Mayor Chuck Joyce and Trustee Dave Krasula, who were not up for re-election. Glynn, an independent who ran on the Common Sense Party line, advocated strict fiscal oversight of the village budget.
Mulry was the 2005 Residents' Voice candidate along with Trustee Andrew Karamouzis, who lost the mayoral election to Bossart two years ago and did not seek a second term. Mulry ran in this election as an independent, on the Sunshine party line. Karamouzis threw his support behind Glynn this time around.
Village justice
Kevin McDonough, who ran on the Justice Party line, defeated Concerned Citizens candidate Mindy Roman, 2,206 to 1,539, according to the unofficial results. "I have tremendous respect for Mindy Roman," McDonough said. "She ran a very tough campaign. I look forward to doing my best to follow in the footsteps of Judge [Frank] Yannelli."
