Central's open house shows off talents, training

How would you like to have a $200,000 professional kitchen with 6 six-burner stoves, a double stacked confection oven, a steam kettle, griddle, and other commercial culinary equipment the envy of any Manhattan chef? Well, if you live in Valley Stream's Central High School District, you do.
How would you like to own a beauticians' shop, a veritable center of cosmetological capabilities, a training place for practitioners of the appearance arts. If you live in the central High school District, you do.
And how would you like to have a brand new child care facility? A new automobile vocational training center? Well, you do.
Proud students were more than happy last Thursday to show off new facilities for the district's commercial foods, cosmetology, child care and auto vocational training programs built and furnished through funds from the capital bond project approved by district voters two years ago.
Residents stopped by all day long to see the programs' new quarters, and even to sample some of the products of the talents and training of the current students. Sweet chocolate cakes and superb chicken choices-and more-filled the high school air with appetite-enticing scents. The splendid services of professionally trained, soon-to-be cosmetologists were no less an attraction to school neighbors.
On an ongoing basis, cosmetology services are available to the community at reasonable charges. They provide hair cuts, hair coloring, skin care, perms, nail care, and other cosmetological services. Ms. Liotti may be reached at 561-4400.
The Valley Stream Culinary Institute Catering Service, the external manifestation of the commercial foods students' training, provides catering for events in the community such as parties, business meetings, and luncheons. Call Marsha Iverson to make arrangements: 561-4438; or call her for more information on child care, auto training services, or to learn more about the district's career programs.
