H. Frank Carey High School will be closed on Oct. 22 and Oct. 23, after a student tested positive for the coronavirus. All students and staff will work remotely at this time.

The closure will enable district cleaners to disinfect the school building on Oct. 23, Superintendent James Grossane explained in a message on the Sewanhaka Central High School District's website, and provides Nassau County Department of Health officials with time to conduct contact tracing and notify anyone who has been in contact with the infected student. Once that process is complete, Grossane said, he would be able to inform parents about whether the school building needs to be closed for a longer period of time.
