H-W to hold important Pre-K orientation meeting

The Hewlett-Woodmere School District holds a Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten Orientation meeting at the Franklin Early Childhood Center (FECC) on Thursday, Jan. 24. It will be held in Gym 1 at 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., for parents of children who will be four years old on or before Dec. 1, 2008. The program, led by FECC Principal Bonnie Epstein, includes a guided tour of the building provided by the Parent-Teacher Association. Programs offered for Prekindergarten children are as follows:

Pre-kindergarten
Pre-Kindergarten is a half-day program sponsored by the school district for all children eligible for Kindergarten the following September. Parents are responsible for transportation of their children to and from this program. A certified teacher is in charge of each session assisted by a teacher aide. The district is a participant in the NYS funded Universal Pre-K program, which provides the district with the opportunity to collaborate with qualified community-based organizations that offer Prekindergarten programs. The Department of Community Services offers the PLUS Program that allows students to extend their day at FECC.

PLUS
Children who attend the half-day pre-kindergarten program at the Franklin Early Childhood Center, have the opportunity to extend their day at FECC through the PLUS program. The PLUS Program, which is offered through the Department of Community Services, is provided on a fee basis and is structured to allow parents to select days.

Before school and after school
The before school and after school programs at the Franklin Early Childhood Center are offered in cooperation with the Five Towns Community Center. These programs, primarily for children of working parents, are offered every school morning from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. (includes breakfast) and after school from 3 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. Tuition is charged for these programs.
