Dozens gathered at St. Agnes Parish Center on Sept. 14 for the fourth annual Designer Handbag Bingo, as residents won prizes while donating to a good cause.
The charity event raised more than $25,000 for New Ground, an organization that has worked since 1991 to end the cycle of homelessness for Long Island families and veterans. Services consist of employment counseling, financial literacy and life skills development, which includes parenting and household maintenance, educational tutoring, reading assistance, education advocacy and tuition assistance.
More than 80 percent of families have graduated from New Ground self-sufficient and able to afford a home of their own, according to the organization’s website.
Each bingo game had designer handbags as a prize. The bags were from the collections of Kate Spade, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Coach, Vince Camuto and Gucci.
