Fair Hats off to baseball
Little League parade kicks off season
East Meadow Little Leaguers paraded around town on Saturday in a celebration that marked the official commencement of the 2012 season. Rain fell in buckets before the march began, but kids of all ages wore their biggest smiles and shouted team chants as they made their way from Prospect Park to the fields on Merrick Avenue.
Each team proudly carried a banner that featured its local business sponsor and numerous winners were announced for their creative designs, said Commissioner Steve La Sala.
Once the hundreds of marchers reached the fields, team Challenge lead onlookers in the Pledge of Allegiance before receiving a donation from the East Meadow Kiwanis Club.
Numerous local officials were also present to share encouraging words for the season ahead and present two signs honoring the district 32 champions that included boys 10U and 12U baseball teams and girls 10U and 12U softball teams, as well as Long Island champions and state finalists girls 14U and 16U teams.
