Ive heard people say this district is deteriorating, but I don't see that. Hatten said during the June 23 meeting at Lawrence Middle School. There has been a lot of misinformation in this district on both sides. Im hoping we can find a way to get to the facts for the district to come together.
Hatten also addressed some community members criticism that the Orthodox members of the board do not best represent the school children. When I hear my yarmulke stands for something thats not for the best interests of the children, I take it personal, he said. Where do you get off on saying that?
Hatten was voted on to the board three years ago. He said he decided not to seek re-election to focus on other things in his life. Hatten is the chairman of the Proprietary School Advisory Council, a governor appointed position. He is also a licensed educator and is the head of Global Business Institute in Far Rockaway. Hatten is regarded as one of the most passionate and knowledgeable board members by the other school board trustees as well as district officials. Abel Feldhamer will fill Hattens trustee seat.
Id like to see a better response from the audience and board, Hatten said. I think this district is magnificent. Its been a pleasure serving, and Ive worked very hard to do the right thing.
