Hazardous weather to impact the Five Towns

Posted

Cedarhurst village officials noted that the National Weather Service is warning that hazardous weather is forecast for the Five Towns today with rain between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Wind gusts up to 44 mph are also expected. A wind advisory is in effect from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

In an emergency, call 911. For fire and medical emergencies only, call the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, (516) 569-4411.

Avoid unnecessary outdoor activity. Falling tree limbs and other wind-blown debris could cause serious injuries or death. The safest place to weather the storm is indoors.

Remove any unsecured outside objects, such as lawn furniture, portable barbecues and pool equipment to a safer location or secure them.

Any downed wire should be treated as though it is a live wire. Do not approach or drive over it, or touch anything it is contacting.
