John Ryan, an independent attorney hired by the district in September, publicly discussed his investigation of charges placed against Trustee Peggy McQuade-Kaplan.
An auditor initially accused McQuade-Kaplan of violated state school board regulations for allegedly having up to 12 unexcused absences from meetings and for not completing a state-mandated financial course. Other charges against the trustee have been added since.
Ryan urged the school board to set a date for a public hearing that would also give McQuade-Kaplan a chance to bring legal representation and to present her testimony. After the hearing, the school board could then determine its potential course of action.
The school board approved a motion that set the hearing date for Nov. 17. McQuade-Kaplan, who was not present at the meeting because of an unspecified medical condition, is entitled to request an adjournment to a future date, district officials said.
