The Massapequa native was spied by residents on Monday morning as he took part in the filming of a commercial for Greater Building Society Ltd., a banking company based in Australia.
“It was exciting for us and for the village to have such a star on our streets,” Cedarhurst Mayor Andrew Parise said. “The people in the community are very excited about this. It’s a great plus for the village.”
The television crew redesigned a vacant store on Cedarhurst Avenue, between Willow and Central avenues, to resemble a branch of the Australian bank. In the commercial, Seinfeld, who is as popular in Australia as he is in America, stands outside the bank as more than 30 people head into and out of it, so engrossed in their banking experience that not one of them realizes that Seinfeld is in their midst. No other details about the commercial were released as of press time.
“The way the producer of the commercial said this is such a beautiful village and thanked us for having them was an honor,” Parise said. “In truth, we thanked them for picking us, as I think this is good for the community. It brought a lot of excitement to the village.”
