Help on way for O'view Street work to start in March

      The work will be starting in March, Long Beach City Manager Edwin Eaton said. We want to start as soon as possible.
      The narrow West End street has been in disrepair for years, and many residents have butted heads with the city over getting the road in shape. Cracks and potholes litter the street, which is heavily used by bikers, joggers and pedestrian traffic.
      On Tuesday, Feb. 19, the City Council authorized a resolution awarding Stasi Brothers Asphalt Corp. of Westbury a contract for the Ocean View reconstruction project for $648,525. A pair of state grants will be picking up the cost.
      This street was in terrible disrepair and I just felt this was an area that should be enhanced like every other aspect in Long Beach, said Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D-Long Beach). This was an area that had to be addressed in the interest of safety, for one thing.
      Weisenberg was responsible for securing $575,000 of the project funds from the New York State Department of Transportation. An additional $105,000 has been secured by the City from the State Aid Chips Program.
      James Conlon, Co-president of Citizens United to Remove Barriers (C.U.R.B.) has felt that Ocean View was a hazard, a real hazard.
