The Herald was honored for its sixth-month "Special Victims" series on sex crimes in the community, which ran in all issues of the Herald in 2005. Senior Editor Scott Brinton, Editors Nick Buglione and Hector Flores, and Reporter Laura Lane wrote the series. The paper will receive the award during a ceremony in Oklahoma in October. Each year, the NNA's Better Newspaper Contest attracts thousands of entries from all 50 states.
