The Long Beach City Council honored Frank Eye, the chief plant operator for city’s water purification plant, with its Employee of the Month certificate at its Feb. 2 meeting. Council members expressed their thanks to Eye for ensuring the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the city’s water system and its distribution. Eye is a forty-year employee of the city. City Manager Charles Theofan presents Eye with a certificate of recognition, and was joined by City Council member Mike Fagen, left, Council President Thomas Sofield Jr., Council member John McLaughlin, Council Vice President Mona Goodman and Council member Len Torres. In 2009, more than 8,000 participants and spectators took part in the annual fundraising event, which to date has raised over $1.6 million dollars for Make a Wish Foundation, an organization that grants wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions. This year the Bears are looking forward to another record-breaking year, and hope to donate even more money to Make A Wish. They invite swimmers and spectators to join in the fun.
