In the spirit of giving this holiday season, members of Hewitt Elementary School’s Student Council collected new, unwrapped toys for the less fortunate in the community. Always looking for meaningful ways to deepen their understanding and commitment to civic responsibility, the children responded to a call from Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who annually partners with South Nassau Communities Hospital to secure donations for needy families. Eager to help, student representatives organized a school-wide drive and the Hewitt community responded generously. The children were then honored when the senator stopped by to pick up the gifts and personally thanked them for their efforts. The entire experience taught the Hurricanes about the importance of making a positive difference to others.
