Hinkemeyer announced her plans to retire - effective Jan. 31, 2006 - at the Oct. 11 meeting of the Board of Education. "I am so proud to be a part of the Valley Stream high school district's 50-year tradition of providing extensive information to the community," Hinkemeyer said. "I will miss the hundreds of students and staff members, and Board of Education, PTA and community leaders that I've worked with over the past 20 years."
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marc Bernstein and members of the Board of Education had only praise, thanks and well wishes for Hinkemeyer. "We wish you godspeed, good health and to enjoy [your retirement]," said Dr. Frank Chiachiere, board president.
As community information coordinator, Hinkemeyer's responsibilities include editing the district's newspaper, "The Observer," the calendar and many other district publications, as well as event planning and issuing news releases and photos to the local media.
Prior to working in Valley Stream, Hinkemeyer spent several years in the publishing industry writing history textbooks and teacher guidebooks. She also taught high school history in suburban Chicago early in her career.
