Hit and run fatality

Witnesses say the victim was thrown in the air and landed head first on the driver-s windshield. A postal carrier reportedly was able to get the driver-s license plate. According to witnesses, the man driving the car, a 1992 Nissan Maxima, got out, looked down, touched her arm and then drove off.
The woman was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital where a staff physician pronounced her dead at 11:29.
Dumen, 51, of 203 Hempstead Gardens Drive, later surrendered to Rockville Centre police who put him under arrest. He was charged with a felony for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident that caused serious injury or death, a misdemeanor for aggravated unlicensed motor vehicle operation and a violation for being an unlicensed motor vehicle operator. He was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on March 12.
