Home Expo highlights what's cool and new

Yes, it's that time again...time to spruce up your home, make the repairs that you've been putting off, buy the new patio furniture that you need, and make your garden grow. Don't worry...it will be easy, because all the latest, most popular, must-have, home-related indoor and outdoor products you can imagine are waiting for you at The Home Show...over 380 exhibits of really cool home stuff. "When you walk in, you'll see fencing and security systems, hot tubs, spas, decking, windows, doors, kitchens, baths, air condition and heating services, landscaping, roofing, siding, flooring and appliances, sprinkler systems, window treatments, decorating products, financial services, insurance companies, tile, vacuum cleaners, sunrooms, sheds, gutter protection, etc." says Liz Benkovich, show manager, all in one breath. "One of the main reasons people come to our Home Show," she continues, "is to discover what's new. And what's great about this show is...when consumers walk around, they'll see signs in exhibitors booths that say: ask us about our new products. "And there's Cool New Products Guy, who will take the top 15 new products from the show and demonstrate them. He's so much fun; he makes each and every product come to life." Eva Demertzis, of Decorating & Design Corp., will present "Friendly Faux Finishing-A Great Wallpaper Alternative," a workshop teaching about Faux Finishing. "What's neat," says Liz, "Is you can watch Eva, then actually try to do it yourself. She has a kit that each of the people attending the workshop will get. They'll practice at the show and take home paint samples, tools for faux finishing, and a book on technique." Expert advice on remodeling, gardening, decorating and other areas of interest to homeowners will also be provided. National Kitchen and Bath Association President, David Linzer, will lecture about the newest products and designs in his workshop "What's Hot in Kitchens & Baths." And he'll teach us everything we need to know about "Designing the Kosher Kitchen." Lawn and garden specialist, Long Island's own, Maria Cinque will present "Spring Lawn Care for First Time Gardeners." And one lucky winner will go home with the "Ultimate Shed," designed and constructed by Nassau BOCES students. Other workshops will include, "Empowering Yourself to be Your Own Best Decorator" and "Designing for Comfortable Living in Today's World," given by Natalie Weinstein. For a total Zen feeling, you won't want to miss "Change Your House, Change Your Life-Feng Shui For Your Home," presented by Peter Reiss, or "From Un-sculped Trees to Works of Art," a showcase in which Pearl Fryer, a botanical sculptor, will share his topiary techniques. Come on Saturday, and you can bid, in a silent auction, to take home one of his masterpieces. "These definitely are not the same shows that have been around for 20 years," says Liz. "We worked hard to improve the quality of the exhibits. This show highlights the best and most reputable companies on Long Island."
