The Sandel Senior Center’s Service Corps is teaming up with the Rockville Centre Public Library to launch a new Homework Helpers program designed to provide mentoring and assistance in reading and math to school children in grades 1-6 and for ESL high school children. Senior volunteers will be on hand in the Library’s Children’s Room, Mondays through Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. beginning on Oct. 3.

The goal of the program, staffed with many retired teachers, is to provide both academic support for local students and an intergenerational experience to bolster community awareness and pride. All interested families are encouraged to take advance of this special opportunity for academic and interpersonal enrichment.

For additional information, contact the Children’s Room at the Rockville Centre Public Library at (516) 766-6257 to make an individualized appointment for your child.
