Hoops for Heart: Falcon files

Throughout her high school career, Flood gave new meaning to what it meant to be involved in the community. As a member of South's varsity basketball and soccer teams, Flood devoted countless hours to helping her teams do the best they could on the court and on the field.
What many do not realize is that Flood's love for sports motivated her to take herself out of the game, and put herself on the sidelines as a coach and mentor to kids. Whether teaching how to take a penalty shot, or how to hit a three-pointer, Flood put as much time and energy as she could into helping others. When she left high school her desire to give back to her community had not gone away. For example, this past fall Flood spent day after day on South's soccer field coaching the junior varsity girls soccer team. She would not allow her cancer diagnosis to stand in her way. She always put the well-being of others before herself.
Hoops with Heart will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in South's gymnasium and will give all of the money raised to Eileen and her family to help her in her struggle to overcome this absolutely awful obstacle in her life. In addition to showcasing a game between two local parish teams, the charity event will also include an alumni versus faculty basketball game. The afternoon is sure to be a fun and exciting event for all who attend. Tickets can be purchased for individuals at a price of $5, or families for $10. If you are unable to attend but would still like to contribute to this great cause, donations will be accepted. Please make all checks out to the Valley Stream Basketball Incorporation, attn: Hoops for Heart. Checks can be sent to 29 West Oxford Street, Valley Stream, NY 11580.
To cite a common South saying, "Small acts of kindness can make a big difference." Come to Hoops with Heart this Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at South High School and make a big difference.
