South Side High School’s Engineering Club participated in the Pumpkin Fling hosted by the Cornell Cooperative and Suffolk County Farms in Yaphank in mid-November. The 25-member team of young engineers spent several weeks designing and building a counterweight trebuchet at the high school with the help of teachers Joseph Saccone and Todd Russo. The students had a great time and the team is looking forward to participating in future events that include the Science Olympiads tower building and rocket competition, the Rube Goldberg Competition and the “Anything that Floats” race.
