Two weeks after Francis X. Murray announced that he would run for mayor, representing the new RVC United Party, Nancy Howard and Michael Sepe have joined him on the ticket.

Nancy Howard

Howard, 50, said she is running for village trustee in an effort to bring back a welcoming environment for village residents, businesses, school students and visitors. She believes that improvements need to be made to the downtown business district, with a focus on parking to encourage people to patronize local merchants. Howard also said she plans to help restore a respectful relationship between the village and the school district, in which both entities benefit and work together to better serve the families of Rockville Centre.

Howard added that she would work to improve the condition of the village’s athletic fields to ensure safety and encourage athletic and recreational participation in the community. She said she would also focus on managing growth and change in the village.

A graduate of the Parsons School of Design with a degree in illustration, Howard and her husband, Dave, have lived in Rockville Centre for 18 years and have four children. Before they started a family, Nancy worked as both a freelance illustrator and a human resources executive, first for Macy’s and then for Salomon Brothers. At Salomon she was a recruiter and conducted management, communication and conflict resolution

training.

Howard chose to become a stay-at-home parent and initially did volunteer work for the Mercy League, the Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts and the Village Millennium Committee. She also became active with the PTA, as Wilson School PTA co-president and as a PTA Council member. She is now a board member of the Rockville Centre Education Foundation and the district Compact Committee, co-president of the South Side High School Booster Club and a board member of the high school PTA.
