The Village of Valley Stream’s zombie walk at the Community Center at Arthur J. Hendrickson Park attracted more than 1,000 people over three nights last week.
The event ran from Oct. 22 to 24, with visitors filing into the center-turned-zombie-triage. Once inside, they learned that the virus had made it inside what was supposed to be a secure area, and actors did their best to startle and terrify them.
Renowned Franklin Square Horror designer Joe Allocco, who does an impressive annual setup at his home that has gained national attention, designed the walk.
The crowd increased over the course of the three evenings, going from between 300 and 400 on Thursday to about double on Saturday, according to the village.
The Recreation Department replaced its Haunted Hayride of the last several years due to the size of the crowds and the limited capacity of the park to accomodate the long lines. Some visitors waited for more than three hours last year, according to Village Clerk Bob Barra.
