Hannon has been a member of the school board since 2005, and was present when the district secured record aid from New York state, and one of the district's lowest tax levies ever.
Hannon said while she is still in the process of learning, she has gone to many workshops to understand the role of a school board member. She said her goal with the school board is to continue the work she has started, and to make a better educational experience for students and the community. She hopes to increase the positive view of schools in the public eye.
Donna Lerner, president of the Baldwin Council of PTAs, said that Hannon has been a huge supporter to both the PTA and the students of the district. Lerner added that Hannon strongly supports all Baldwin athletics, and was one of the main organizers of the Baldwin Community Fair.
"I find [Hannon] is a wonderful resource, and I count on her for her guidance and wisdom to lead and to help and support the children of this district," said Lerner. "She is always there to lend a hand and give
good advice."
Hannon, currently a homemaker, is married and has four children. She is active in the middle school and high school PTA's, and says she is always available to the
community.
"I can bring my community relations with members of the community to the board," said Hannon.
Hannon graduated Maramount High School in Manhattan and has a degree in hospital administration from St. John's University.
Residents can vote for school board candidates and the school budget on May 20.
