Incumbents re-elected in 5T village elections

Several Five Towns villages held elections on Tuesday.
The only contested village race in the Five Towns was won by Mitchell Dix, incumbent mayor of Hewlett Neck. He defeated challenger Peter Halperin in a race decided by 40 votes. According to village officials, a turnout of 168 voters was significantly higher than in recent years.
Dix's colleague, Incumbent Trustee Bertram Kalsher, was also re-elected.
In Lawrence, Trustee Simon Felder rose to the mayor's seat by easily winning his uncontested race. Trustees Martin Oliner, Edward Klar and Village Justice Donald Buchalter were also re-elected.
Hewlett Harbor Mayor Mark Weiss and Trustees Gerald Morganstern and Ken Kornblau were re-elected in their uncontested races.
Mayor Stephen Mahler and Trustee Janice Goorland, both unopposed incumbents, won in Atlantic Beach. Atlantic Beach Trustee Ed Sullivan, also unopposed, attained his first two-year term in office. He was appointed trustee after Sam Mevorach resigned in 2007.
Mayor Steven Kaufman and Trustees Andrea Soskel and Nina Kreisner were all re-elected in Hewlett Bay Park. In Woodsburgh, Edmond Mukmal and Marc Stern were re-elected to new terms as trustees.
