In final yet unofficial results from the Nassau County Board of Elections, Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola) easily won re-election to a fourth term in the 4th Congressional District. She captured 56.5 percent of the vote, soundly defeating Republican challenger Marilyn O'Grady, an ophthalmologist taking her first shot at political office. McCarthy captured 92, 232 to 70, 215 for O'Grady.
In the 9th Senatorial District, nine-term incumbent Republican Dean Skelos cruised to victory over his Democrat opponent, Richard Glassberg, garnering 68 percent of the vote. Skelos received 54, 819 votes to Glassberg's 24,074.
In the 20th Assembly District race, voters overwhelmingly returned Democrat Harvey Weisenberg to his seat in the district, in a victory over Republican challenger Peter McDonald. The incumbent assemblyman captured 67 percent of the votes, outscoring his opponent 22,196 to 11,073.
Assemblyman Robert Barra (R-Lynbrook) won a second term in office, defeating Democrat challenger Vincent Grasso by winning 60.5 percent of the vote and retaining his seat in the 14th Assembly District, which takes in a portion of Hewlett. Barra collected 20,909 votes and Grasso, 12, 255.
