When asked about the value of physical fitness, John F. Kennedy once said, “Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.” At Island Park Schools, administrators and teachers also believe in the significance of developing a healthy mind and a healthy body in each student. One of several activities highlighting the district’s physical fitness program is the annual 6th Grade Physical Education Demonstration. This year’s event, under the direction of Athletic Director Catherine Gerbino and Physical Education teachers Annie Bennett-Neglia, Robert Patch, and Matthew Tarasenko, was held this month in the Lincoln Orens Middle School gymnasium. Sixth graders showcased their physical skills before their parents and relatives in a series of activities including Guinea Pig, Smash Cone, European Handball, Indoor Soccer, Crossfire, and Tug-of-War. While the events were physically challenging, they also were a lot of fun.
