The Island Park School District will again offer a full-day pre-kindergarten program to district children for the 2016-2017 school year if funding is received from the State Education Department. The funding comes from a grant from New York State.
Applications are available and may be picked up at the district business offices (Conference Center) at 99 Radcliffe Road from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The pre-kindergarten program will begin in September and run until the following June at no cost to families or the school district. The pre-kindergarten calendar of days follows the district calendar for all other students.
Only children who will be 4 years old on or before December 1, 2016 will be eligible to attend the pre-kindergarten program beginning September 2016. The program will take place at the Lincoln Orens Middle School in the pre-kindergarten wing. Program hours are from 8:50 am to 2:10 pm each day, Monday through Friday. Transportation will be provided as well as meals (breakfast, lunch, and snack).
There will be a pre-kindergarten meeting for parents on March 8, in the Lincoln Orens Middle School pre-kindergarten wing at 7 p.m. At this time, the teachers will explain the program in detail, with an opportunity for parents to visit the classrooms.
Pre-kindergarten registration takes place at the Francis X Hegarty Elementary School (100 Radcliffe Road, Island Park) on Feb.ruary 23-25. Parents who want their child to attend the program in September must arrange an appointment for their child and bring their completed application with them. Applications are also welcomed ahead of the registration dates.
