Joan Laperuta, beloved soulmate of Frank Laperuta, passed away peacefully Easter morning, April 20, at the home of her daughter in Vermont, where she had been living with Parkinson’s Disease for four years. She was 84.
Laperuta was born on July 15, 1929. As a young woman, she worked in New York City. Due to family concerns, she moved her job to Long Island, where she worked at Franklin National and European American Banks. The “EA girls” were still dear friends, keeping in touch even after they could no longer meet for lunch.
She attended to her parents needs through death and was always there when needed for her siblings as they, too, passed away.
Upon her retirement, she increasingly spent more time with Frank. Much of their life revolved around Corcoran’s Ink Spot, Frank’s print shop at 80 Broadway in Lynbrook. They so enjoyed the company of customers and friends who came into the shop and always had something nice to say about their neighboring business owners. It was a sad day for them both when the shop closed in 2006 and even sadder still for Joan when Frank passed away in 2007. While her quick wit and readiness for a good time never left her, they had become inseparable and the spark left her eye when he died.
Joan and Frank had many good times together. Frank reconnected with his Flying Tiger buddies and had lots of fun at the reunions. They attended many community and Elk functions enjoying the company of their many friends. They made beautiful memories together that sustained Joan during her illness. She enjoyed sharing stories with the hospice workers and aides who took compassionate and loving care of her during her illness.
Her daughter and her husband, two grandchildren and one great grandchild survive Joan.
A Mass was held at Holy Family Church, Essex Junction, Vermont. With family and a few close friends in attendance, she was buried with Frank in the family plot at Holy Rood Cemetery.
