Joe Santana was sworn in as the new Commander of Valley Stream American Legion Post 854 on June 19. He takes over the role from William Rowe.
The American Legion was established in 1919 and is guided by four foundational pillars: Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation, National Security, Americanism and Children and Youth. These pillars support a broad range of programs that assist veterans, service members, their families, young people and communities across the country.
The work of the American Legion is directed by resolutions passed by national convention delegates and committee and commission members who represent 2.5 million wartime veterans and their families. Through these programs and the efforts of local members, the organization continues to make an impact at the local, state and national levels.
