John Conboy, who died suddenly in 1999, was a beloved South Side Middle School guidance counselor for 15 years.
Co-workers started the run to keep Conboy's memory alive and to help pay for his children's education.
Because so many village residents were killed on Sept. 11, the organizer's decided to split the money raised this year between the Conboy scholarship and the We Care RVC Fund.
Brian MacDonough, a middle school teacher, said the event is really about remembering loved ones. American Flags were added to the event shirts this year as well.
The overall winner was 16-year-old Patrick Mc Cadden of Rockville Centre who finished in 17:59. Second place was also taken by a village resident, Daniel Liburd, 18, with a time of 18:21. Third place went to Brian Mcnamara, 45, of Baldwin with a time of 18:36.
The top female racer was Susan Skidmore, 44, of Bellmore who finished with a time of 20:38. Diana Korman, 42, was the first Rockville Centre female finisher with a time of 23:40. She was quickly followed by Daphne Skelos, 14, with a time of 23:42.
MacDonough praised the teachers, students and central administration who helped put the race together and keep it going every year. They also thanked the many business sponsors for their continued support.
