Numerous community groups took part in the annual event, including the Merrick American Legion, the Merrick and North Merrick fire departments, Bellmore-Merrick Emergency Medical Services and the North Shore Animal League. The mobile Town of Hempstead Hall was also on hand. And the Calhoun Key Club volunteered time.
The festival organizing committee included Margaret Mueller of R.S. Jones restaurant, Ira Reiter of Merrick Dodge, Ilene Dixel of the Merrick Herald, Lois Roos of Merrick Life, Dr. Kathleen Meyer, Sally Tilles of Curves, Linda Labriola of DeCafe and Kelly Leung of What's N Store.
The Kids Fest serves as a fund-raiser for the chamber's scholarship fund, which each year awards scholarships to three Bellmore-Merrick seniors, one from each of the Central District's three high schools.
