Students from more than 20 elementary schools across the region, including St. Christopher’s School in Baldwin, participated in the Valentines for Vets card drive for Nassau County veterans this Valentine’s Day.

The children partnered with Assemblyman Brian Curran to create the handmade Valentine’s Day cards to be distributed throughout the 21st Assembly District, including Baldwin, which Curran represents.

Pete Vitulli, commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3350 in East Rockaway, said his post received and helped to distribute the missives.

Among the recipients were members of the American Legion Post 246 of Baldwin.

Besides St. Christopher’s, some of the other schools participating in the drive included: Centre Avenue Elementary School; St. Raymond’s School; John Street Elementary School; Columbus Avenue Early Childhood Education Center; Ogden Elementary School; Franklin Early Childhood Center; Lynbrook Kindergarten Center; Our Lady of Peace; Floyd B. Watson Elementary School; St. Agnes School; and St. Thomas School.

“The freedoms that we as a country enjoy Care a direct result of the sacrifices made by our veteran men and women, and this is a wonderful way to show them our love for what they have done for their country is appreciated and remembered,” Curran, a Lynbrook Republican, said in a news release. “I want to say a tremendous thank you that goes out to all of our schools and children who participated in this card drive to make it possible, and to the superintendents and teachers for assisting with the project. I know this is something that our veterans enjoy and will cherish.”
