KIDs quilt on national display

Posted
The quilt, which illustrates what living with type 1 diabetes means to the children through creatively designed quilt squares, was created for the Quilt for Life Project, initiated by Children with Diabetes – an organization that promotes understanding of the care and treatment of diabetes, especially in children.
The KIDs’ work of art will be on display at the Children with Diabetes Annual Friends for Life Conference in Orlando, FL in July. The quilt is also on display through the Children with Diabetes website at www.childrenwithdiabetes.com.
The Diabetes Education Center at Winthrop offers a variety of free support groups for adults and children. The KIDs Program, open to children age six to 12 years old, is designed to teach children about diabetes through games and activities.
The Winthrop Diabetes Education Center, established in 1979, was the first nationally accredited outpatient education program in New York State by the American Diabetes Association. Recently, the Center was recognized with the “Outstanding Achievement in Diabetes Education” Award by the Metropolitan New York Association of Diabetes Educators in honor of its 30 years of service to the community.
