The Merrick Kiwanis Club held a Dec. 21 care package event, in which members and volunteers helped bag groceries, including a turkey, for people in need from throughout the community.
Dr. Richard Seibert said as many as 30 or more families benefit each year from the Kiwanis Club's annual food drive, for which volunteers stand outside local supermarkets to collect donations. Kiwanis receives the names of families in need from the schools and the local food pantry.
