Outgoing Kiwanis President Alan Alterman said, ³Our club felt that this would benefit the children in our community and our fire department. When an ambulance comes to the scene, they are equipped to treat adults. Our kit will enable them to treat young children, from infants to 8-year-olds.²
The Pediatric Trauma Kit contains a pediatric immobilization board, pediatric measuring tape, a child BVM resuscitator, bag-mask disposable resuscitators, 10 disposable face masks (neonatal, infant, toddler and child), infant and child blood pressure cuffs and gauges, and other items. Alterman explained that the kits are designed to meet on-the-scene emergency needs of children. The Kiwanis¹s Pediatric Trauma Kit was put together by the Kiwanis Pediatric Center at North Shore Hospital.
³We have worked hand in hand with the East Meadow Fire Department,² Alterman said. ³They have assisted us in CPR classes and in our fund-raising events. This is our way of thanking them.²
Susan Mongello, captain of Rescue Co. 5, said, ³[This kit] is extremely valuable. We don¹t get too many pediatric calls, but with the summertime upon us, this is the best time to receive the kit.²
