On Oct. 10, South Nassau Community Hospital visited the assisted living facility Atria Tanglewood for their annual Breast Cancer Ceremony. “The Knit Wits,” Atria’s resident knitting club, presented South Nassau with a collection of pink scarves and hats for patients in treatment and for survivors.
The Knit Wits had been preparing these gifts over the past few months. These special ladies then received a single pink rose to recognize all their efforts. After the donations and flowers were exchanged, representatives from South Nassau Community Hospital spoke on subjects like educating future generations on breast cancer and what still needs to be accomplished. Even the staff of Atria was dressed in something pink in order to promote awareness. The ceremony concluded with a special thanks to all who participated. After, pink drinks and homemade cupcakes that were adorned with pink ribbons were served.
The club includes residents: Theresa Ardezzone, Sadie D’Angelo, Antoinette Esposito, Eileen Gorman, Vanya Johnson, Estelle Kanzer, Norma Kritzer, Fran Maggio, Selma Pickoff, Sylvia Rothstein, Dorothy Selcov, Rosemary Shields, Edythe Steinberg and Candy Walls.
