They defeated challengers Jonathan Rosner, Scott Goldberg and Gilda Tesser in the at-large election, where the top two vote-getters win.
Weinick, a board member for nine years, received 2,874 votes; Korman captured 3,130 votes; Tesser received 1,435; Goldberg 880; Rosner 791. Rosner and Goldberg were the first representatives from the Jewish parochial school community to bid for a District 14 seat.
Budget passes
Though the District 14 budget increase stands at 11.38 percent, carrying with it a 13 percent hike in the tax levy, voters approved
the $65.2 million budget, 2,536 to 2,293.
This is the highest turnout we've had in history, said Superintendent Dr. Charles Fowler,
who added that more than 5,000 turned out at the polls. When I saw the size of the turnout I was confident we would win this [budget vote].
Korman said, Tonight the community spoke and showed that education is important for all children.
Also approved was authorization to spend no more than $635,000 from capital reserves to remove and replace two boilers at the Woodmere Education Center; and to change 6th grade transportation eligibility for students who live beyond one mile from the school they attend.
