'Walking for Health' for Breast Cancer Survivors and Patients
Breast Cancer survivors and current patients are invited to learn the best techniques for healthy, comfortable walking through the free Paths to Wellness Program of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.On Wednesday, Aug. 30, from 5 until 6:30 p.m., participants will meet at Eisenhower Park, parking field #2, in East Meadow with Joan Murray, OTR, CHT. Murray, a registered occupation therapist, specializes in arm and hand rehabilitation and is a part time assistant professor at SUNY-Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. She is a member of the Long Island Walkers Club and has participated in LI 2Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer as a walker and co-leader of the training committee.Walking at a moderate pace burns stored fat, builds muscle to speed up metabolism and is also associated with cutting risk of heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes and stroke. Support Group for Parents of Disabled Children is now forming. Now there is help and assistance for those raising a developmentally disabled child thanks to South Shore Services for the Handicapped.
