The teams seemed pretty well matched at first, ending the opening quarter with South Side leading 1-0. But the Cyclones quickly established their dominance, scoring six goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter. The rampage continued in the third, with South Side scoring another seven goals. The Cyclones earned their final two goals in the fourth quarter.
Goalie John Kennedy came up big for the Cyclones, with 13 saves in the first half. Daniel Orlando came in to keep the lead safe in the second half.
Kevin Hill led the team in scoring with five goals. Also helping the winning effort were Ed Ege, four, Kent Lucas, three, and Kevin Riley, Mike Robustello, Chris White and Keith Marrano scoring one goal apiece. White also contributed a team-high six assists.
Asked if he was surprised by the team-s success, coach Joseph Baccarella said, We know we-ve been underdogs this season. Some even consider us a Cinderella story, but at the same time these kids have worked very hard and are now getting out of it what they put in.
