Let’s talk seals

Posted
Oceanside High School graduate Samantha Rosen gave an informative and entertaining presentation about the seals who live in the waters of Long Island on April 2, at the Oceanside Library. Samantha, who is an Education Coordinator with the Riverhead Foundation, a non-profit which rescues seals, turtles, dolphins and other marine life, spoke about the types of seals swimming off our coasts, and the work she and her co-workers do to rescue and release these animals. She concluded her talk with samples of seal skulls and fur, and let audience members try on some of the equipment she uses. This program was part of Oceanside Library’s celebration of Earth month. Coming up is an Introduction to Birdwatching, presented by members of the South Shore Audubon Society, on April 18.
