Dordal came recommended

To the Editor:

Your recent story “RVCHA appointment sparks heated debate” (Sept. 8-14) neglected to include my public comments at the Aug. 29 village board meeting concerning Commissioner Peter Dordal’s reappointment. I specifically stated that he is my most valued commissioner. His financial expertise during our recent $30 million reconstruction plan was crucial.

During his tenure, Commissioner Dordal has contributed immensely to the overall positive success of the Rockville Centre Housing Authority.

I highly recommended his reappointment to Mayor Francis Murray.

Mayor should apologize

To the Editor:

Thank you for the story “RVCHA appointment sparks heated debate,” as it rightly indicated tenant dissatisfaction with the current members of the RVC Housing Authority. As stated in the article, this dissatisfaction was expressed by the tenant representatives of the Old Mill Court Housing Complex Tenant Association at the Aug. 29 village board meeting, as well as at a private meeting with the mayor that was held several weeks prior to the August meeting.

However, the article did not mention the fact that the tenants had circulated petitions in the area and that they had submitted these petitions to the mayor with a cover letter addressed to the mayor and Board of Trustees on the Thursday night prior to the August meeting. The petitions requested that the mayor table the reappointment of Peter Dordal and requested that a new person be appointed instead of Mr. Dordal.

Unfortunately, the mayor not only failed to table the reappointment, he did not even show these petitions to the trustees before they voted on the Dordal reappointment. He had every opportunity that night to share the petitions with trustees prior to the vote, but failed to do so, and this failure rightfully became one of the causes of the heated debate that ensued at the meeting.

It was very upsetting to me to witness this breach of democratic process, and I feel that Mayor Murray should apologize to the residents of Old Mill Court who circulated the petitions, and that Mr. Dordal’s reappointment should be revoked. As an alternative, Mr. Dordal might be prevailed upon to do the right thing and step down so as to give the mayor time to find a more suitable person to appoint.

A new low

To the Editor:

I have always considered naming names in your Crime Watch section tasteless, unnecessary and humiliating to the people named.

But now the paper has sunk to a new low. In the Sept. 1-7 issue, there were no fewer than six listings of people caught urinating in public, including their names. Do I have to know this?

Some of the Herald is good, some is bad and some is ugly.

Move on

developing the Hub

To the Editor:

I agree with guest columnist Jeff Greenfield that we need to stop the political bickering and start moving on developing the Nassau Hub (“We can save the Hub,” Aug. 25-31). What sits there now is an embarrassment to every Nassau resident. How is it that Newark can build a first-class entertainment center but Nassau County can’t?

No one will forget those special souls

To the Editor:

I’m writing this letter two days before the 10-year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Today marks 11 years since my brother and I lost our mother to breast bone cancer. A year later, when 9/11 happened, as painful as it was to lose Mama and still is today, I knew she was an angel.

I also knew that when all those beautiful souls were taken away so tragically, Mama greeted them all in the white light. She opened her arms, spread her angel wings and hugged each soul that entered heaven. She gave them each a smile, told she’d take care of them and made sure each one of them had a set of angel wings. I know she told them not to be afraid and reassured them that no one on earth would ever forget them.

Well, Mama was right. No one on earth will ever forget those special souls who are now angels. May they all rest in peace and stay in the white light, and may everyone who lost loved ones in the 9/11 attacks know you have an angel who’s always standing next to you, smiling at you.

Kreiss insults

opposition

To the Editor:

Randi Kreiss advocates a learning curve for President Obama (“Doubling down, Obama has my vote again,” Aug. 25-31), which will make him a better president in his second term. OK, then why did she not afford the same learning curve to his predecessor, George W. Bush? Rather, she trashed him, and continues to trash him, at every opportunity.

Randi admires President Obama for his “integrity, diplomacy” and his skill as a mediator and conciliator. Yet she echoes his supporters when she calls his opponents the following: “intransigent,” “wild-eyed,” “bully,” “minions to spread lies,” “extremists,” “GOP yahoos,” “weirder,” “right-wing,” “cunning like a fox,” “anti-intellectual,” “master of the innuendo,” “appealing to fear and bias,” “exclusionary,” “Will Ferrell playing George Bush,” “touts guns and God” (as if God is bad), “wears faith too boldly on his sleeve.” So why do Obama’s supporters, the left and Randi, insult anyone and everyone that holds an opposing viewpoint? I thought we got rid of censorship and mind control when the Soviet Union and the Iron Curtain fell under — dare I say it? — President George H.W. Bush and his predecessor, Ronald Reagan.

I’m really confused about this, so maybe someone can provide the answers.
