Holiday Centerpiece Create a holiday centerpiece on Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Jule will show you how using a decorative container, silk leaves, holly, flowers and French wired ribbons. Please bring wire cutters. There is a materials fee of $20 to be paid at time of registration.

Long Island Crisis Center the oldest 24-hour, seven-day-a-week crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline, is looking for volunteers for the upcoming Volunteer Counselor Training Program. Those interested in becoming a volunteer telephone crisis intervention counselor with LICC must first call 826-0244 to schedule an interview. No experience is necessary to volunteer and the hours are flexible to fit the individual needs of volunteers. LICC’s next training sessions will be held 7-10 p.m. Dec. 4, 11, and 18.
Live Art Auction School 2, 2745Terrell Ave., in Oceanside is having a Live Art Auction hosted by Marlin Arts. There will be sports and music memorabilia, art gallery pictures and much more that will be auctioned off. The event is being held on Friday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 per person or $15 per couple.
Holiday Happenings, hosted by DOCA, will be on Saturday Dec. 13 at School #6, located at 25 Castleton Court The event starts at 10 a.m. There will be Santa from10:30-12:30 with free pictures and gifts, a baton exhibition at 11:30 and a horse-drawn wagon ride starting at 11:30. In between will be cooking decorating, crafts and lots of fun in the auditorium.
Christmas Fair The First United Methodist Church of Oceanside, located at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Davison Street, will hold its annual Christmas Fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 6. There will be crafts, wreath center pieces, a gourmet table, Granny’s Attic, Stitch and Knit, perfumes, soaps, and candles. there will also be lunch with Santa at noon for $5 and pictures with Santa from 10-11:30 a.m. and 1-2 p.m., which are also $5.
St. Andrew's Thrift Shop, located at 50 Anchor Ave. in Oceanside, will be open for three Thursdays in December-the 4, the 11 and the 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They have four rooms of various items including clothing, Christmas decorations, glassware, dishes, household appliances, decorative items, lamps, books, records, bedding, curtains, towels, craft items and much more. The Oceanside Chorale presents its Holiday Concert on Dec. 20 at 8 p.m. at School 8, located at 3252 Fulton Ave. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, and children under 12 are free. there will also be a fund raiser raffle at the concert, with prizes to be won. Christmas House Tour The First United Methodist Church of Oceanside, located at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Davison Street, is presenting its Christmas House Tour on Dec. 14 frrom 3-6 p.m. There will be four beautifully decorated homes to see, and also the decorations in the church Sanctuary. The Island Park Civic Association will be holding a holiday fundraiser on Dec. 10 from 6-9 p.m. at the Island Park Exempt Hall, located adjacent to the fire house. There will be health and wellness products for the whole family from Arbonne International, as well as basket raffles and a 50/50.

Dramatizing the Jewish Encounter with America: The Tenth Man to Angels in America A Lecture by Professor Julius Novick. After World War II, Jewish Americans prospered as never before, but the old tensions between Jewish heritage and American opportunities persisted.
