Little League aiding the needy

Posted
For the holiday season, the Little League is asking community members to donate unwrapped children's toys and make cash donations toward Stop & Shop gift certificates for 30 families in need selected confidentially through the high middle and elementary schools.
"Every kid deserves a present to open. Every family deserves a meal at the holidays," League President Jerry Marino said. The goal is to raise $1,500 to provide each of the selected families with a $50 gift certificate to the local grocery store and as many toys as possible. "I believe as the largest organization in the Bellmores, it is our responsibility to help others," he added. "We are not just about baseball and softball; we are about families and happiness, especially at this time of year." The league is also collecting toys and donations for the Salvation Army's Christmas and Holiday Drive.
Drop off unwrapped toys or monetary donations at the NBNM Little League Clubhouse at Gunther Field (corner of Bellmore Avenue and Logue Street) on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9, and Saturday, Dec. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. Toy drop-off boxes are also set up at My Hero restaurant on Jerusalem Avenue and at the Sunoco Station at North Jerusalem Avenue and Bellmore Road. If not convenient, to make other arrangements, call Jerry Marino at (516) 781-7220 or 639-0813.
