Rockville Centre Guild for the Arts performers are working tirelessly to prepare for the performance of “Little Women,” scheduled from Oct. 21-23 at the South Side Middle School, 67 Hillside Ave.
The cast of 32 includes many well known Rockville Centre residents, including former village Trustee Jeanne Mulry and South Side High School English teacher Jen Monsour, who has also worked with the high school theater department on numerous occasions in a variety of roles.
“I think theater is a transformative experience, for the performers and for the audience, for everybody involved,” Monsour said, in explaining her decision to work with the Guild. “It can really inspire and change you.”
Monsour explained that she could see herself connected to Marmee, the character she portrays in the play. “She’s a strong and maternal woman who has very admirable qualities, and she tries to do her best all the time,” Monsour said. “So yes, I have a very deep spot for Marmee.”
Jackie Cano, a South Side High School junior, is excited to play the bold character Amy in the performance. “She’s the littlest out of all of them. What I like about her is she has a lot of spunk,” Cano said. “It’s something I’ve never done before because usually I play really sweet girls, and this is the first time I have to step out of my comfort zone.”
Tickets for the performance range between $15 and $22 and the Guild is offering special tickets that include admission to the cast tea party, which takes place before the Sunday afternoon performance. Visit www.RVCGuild@aol.com for more information.
