On June 19, four young men of Scout Troup 24, Malverne, were awarded the highest achievement in scouting their Eagle Scout recognition.
In attendance Frank T. Hunt, PSVP, ER and Richard P. Finnegan, Tiler, at New York Elks Lodge No. 1, to present the honorees the “Elks Eagle Scout Award.”
The projects of these young men provided lasting change in the community in which they reside. The young men performed project that reflect their achievement above and beyond the call.
The Eagles and their projects
Vincent A. Calaruso, planned, advertized for and organized a team of volunteers, planned and set up a clothing drive to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island. The project yielded over 2,042 pounds of clothing, donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Nicholas B. St. John organized a team of and planned and created the 9/11 Memorial for the Village of Malverne around a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. The Memorial is located in the center of the village and location of the annual memorial services.
Kyle O’Connor decided he wanted to help the troops co-sponsor American Legion Post 44, with needed repairs. Kyle and his team of scouts and adults refurbished and painted the exterior doors, handrails, and the flag drop off box.
Brendan Warner’s Eagle project was to work with Haven House in Brentwood to help make life a little easier for young mothers in need of assistance. Brendan organized a call for donations of food, baby items, bottles, and clothing, through appealing to the parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. His team of volunteers packed and delivered items to Haven House for delivery to young mothers in need.
