Michael Ambrosio and Paul Woods were awarded the honor for their assistance with the search and recovery efforts at ground zero following the World Trade Center tragedy.
"There were no small tasks performed by firefighters in the wake of Sept. 11, and I am proud to be able to honor our town employees who were part of this crucial effort," Guardino said. "Whether providing backup at firehouses, collecting and delivering supplies or digging through the rubble at ground zero, the contributions of these people made a difference."
Volunteer firefighters who were released from town duties assisted in a host of different ways following the terrorist attacks. Emergency assignments for the volunteers included working at FDNY firehouses, working on rescue and recovery and loading trucks to go to the site.
