The Elmont School District's $61 million spending plan passed by a 1,343 - 920 vote margin. In the school board election, Pam Byer defeated Patrick Nicolosi to win the seat vacated by Joy Madera, who opted not to run due to health problems. Newcomer Frank Ragona beat incumbent Ken Williams by 84 votes.
The Franklin Square School District avoided a repeat of last year, when the budget was rejected on its first go-round. Franklin Square's $28.9 million spending plan passed by more than 100 votes. Helen Hoffman was victorious over Alan Lahti, winning the school board seat previously occupied by outgoing board member Audrey Hulsart. Pam Margaroli ran unopposed and will take the spot of Dr. Roger Roess, who is retiring.
Sewanhaka Central High School District's $134 million budget was approved by more than 500 votes.
