For his work, Schatz has been awarded the New York Guard Meritorious Service Medal and the New York Guard Service Bronze Medal.

Stephen D’Esposito enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 during the height of the Vietnam War, following his father’s footsteps, who served in combat in the Army during World War II. D’Esposito went through basic training at Fort Dix in New Jersey. Afterward he was stationed at Fort Eustis in Newport News, Virginia. He later earned the rank of Sergeant.
